Knowledge is power and for the basic concept of having information, I write this piece.
World breastfeeding day was first celebrated in 1992. The world breastfeeding week runs from date 1 to date 7 of August. Breastfeeding is a basic right of a child that should be done anywhere and at any time. Statistically, breastfeeding can save up to 700000 lives. Breastfeeding saves both the life of the child and the mother
Through breastfeeding the mother is able to be protected from diseases like;
- Breast cancer
- Ovarian cancer
- Type 2 diabetes
- Heart disease
This year’s slogan for world breastfeeding day is protecting breastfeeding it is a shared responsibility.
Breastfeeding is seen as a shared responsibility for both genders as with the birth of the child the father gets to have a paternity leave whereas the mother also takes up the paternity leave. In all fairness, the child should be able exclusively to breastfeed for six months and the breastfeeding should start an hour after birth, continued breastfeeding until the baby is at least 2 years old.
In conclusion, getting to grow up healthy and strong for an infant is a shared responsibility. Let us appreciate the role we each have to play by respecting a breastfeeding woman’s space and encouraging breastfeeding. For more check out the pictures attached. Happy world breastfeeding week!
