She is fly she is epic she has the voice.
1. Bad gal shee how did you come up with the name?
Bad stands for-Bold and daring and Shee’s just a short form for Sheila.
I believe choosing to be in the entertainment industry, especially in Kenya, is a bold move, and I am daring enough to follow my dreams and not let what others think or say negatively affect me.
2. Tell us a little bit about yourself,
My name’s Sheila Nabalayo.
I was born in Kitale town and raised in Kakamega. I attended primary school at Overcoming Faith Academy, in Kakamega and later joined Friends’ School Keveye Girls where I finished in 2015 scoring a B plain.
I later joined Kisii University, where I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Purchasing and Supplies Management (BPSM).
AOBs: my current favourite colour’s red, I love both cats and dogs, I draw sometimes
3. When did your career kick-off?
My love for music started at a young age.
I grew up listening to my father’s CDs of Celine Dion, Westlife and Eve.
I’d always tell people that I’d like to be like them someday.
I started composing songs in high school since I wanted to sing during Sunday services but didn’t know a lot of gospel songs, so I wrote my own. I also participated in the school choir, where I reached the National level.
I decided to do music as a career early last year officially.
I performed at the school cultural week and got a positive response. As fate would have it,I recorded NIKUPENDE. My dad was not supportive at first. With time he became receptive.
4. .How is it studying and at the same time doing music
I believe there’s a lot of free time at the University especially during the weekends, so I always work on my music during that time and any other day that I don’t have a lecture to attend, sometimes I do it overnight. You just need to learn how to balance school and music
5. . Tell us about your record label
I am currently signed under Redtape Nation.
So far I’d say it’s the best record label I know.
It considers our needs and opinions, not just as an artist but also as a person.
I wouldn’t be where I am without my producer Tasla; he’s one of the most patient, kind and understanding people I know. He has been with me in every step ever since I started my music journey, and I am looking forward to working with him for a very long time.
6. Your latest release cruel world, what inspired it?
It was inspired by what many women go through not only in the entertainment industry but life in general. I wanted to explain to the world that it’s not easy for a woman to achieve her dreams without being seen as a sex object, no matter what she brings to the table.
7. What is the biggest challenge you face in the industry?
I’d say the most significant challenge I face is finance. Generating money, especially for the videos which is expensive, is a big challenge.
8. Where are you looking to be in the next few years?
In the next few years, I’d like to be among the best female musicians not only in Kenya, but also outside the country.
9.kindly give us your stand as a lady?
I want to be an inspiration to the young ladies out there to follow their dreams. It is that simple.
10. Finally any closing remarks
I’d like to encourage anyone out there who aspires to be an artist to always believe in themselves, work hard, put God first and never say never because dreams do come true.
